It’s hard to say just how many color schemes I’ve embraced through all the Christmases Past. It is also difficult to count the number of ornaments accumulated. How sad that most decorations remain inside the crowded Christmas Tree closet year after year!
The lights on our little pre-lit tree have died. I’m thinking a new tree is in order and have been shopping what’s available. All websites are inundated with stunning seasonal decor. With a new tree comes a new theme, me thinks!

I am currently very drawn to black and white and gold color schemes.

And did I mention, I’ve been attempting to learn mandala dot painting? Here is an example of my practice sessions on CDs and kindness stones.

So, here’s where this project begins. We have gobs of white Christmas tree ornaments, like crocheted snowflakes. There are also lots of gold baubles, but not many black ones.
Please forgive the poor photos. It was very cold the day these were taken, so I was inside with the camera.

These small gold trinkets are plastic and very inexpensive. If this project goes wrong, not much has been lost other than my time and some black paint.

Using black acrylic paint and two dotting tools, I began playing with simple designs. No two ornaments are the same. I don’t know that I will want black ribbon on every gold ornament, but a small bow here and there adds a soft touch.

I’m disappointed the photos are so poor. Once my eyes began to cross after painting so many dots, I tried hand lettering. Although difficult to see, these have “love”, “joy” and “peace” written on them. Again, each ornament is slightly different.

After gaining confidence on these small, plastic baubles, I plan to tackle some larger, breakable ones! Woo hoo! It’s exciting to re-vamp what we have instead of cramming more boxes into an already crowded closet!
Christmas spirit doesn’t always come this early for me. I can hardly wait to show y’all my tree once it’s finished!
